On day 2 of Global Tour Specialists Rockies Connoisseur or our Scent of the Rockies we take you to a quaint little town called Canmore, which is the little sister to Banff. Canmore has a remarkable dining scene set against the stunning mountain scenery. Its relaxed lifestyle attracts some of the finest chefs in Canada resulting in a town of 12,000 people offering 100 restaurants

So lets explain how it works?

This is a progressive dinner walking tour, we deliver you from Banff, a short 10 minute drive away . No tour will be the same as the restaurants change depending on the group sizes, so not even your local Canadian guide will know until the drop off where you will explore and taste. Your progressive dinner starts with a wine tasting and chat with a local wine and beer lover.

The tour is than followed by 4 restaurant stops where you will be served a house specialty with an alcoholic drink. Special diets are easily catered for.

So where did we go on our progressive dinner?

After our wine tasting we walked into the main street to the Mountain Mercato, a specialty food market and café where we were served a lovely glass of Prosecco with seasonal bruschetta. Ripe tomatoes, local goats cheese drizzled with olive oil and fresh herbs on local sourdough .

It was then a short stroll over to Tavern 1883 which has a quintessential Canadian bar set in a 1900’s house that oozes character. We were able to choose our drink, so being a warm spring night we indulged in Mojitos. This was accompanied with some very moreish and spicy, deepfried Brussell Sprouts. They also included some (Ducks Nuts) Arancini ( crispy deep fried risotto balls) stuffed with local duck meat A highlight at the tavern was our waiter, who was a local up and coming ice hockey player making ends meet, and it was lovely to hear his story ( they are ice hockey mad there !)

It was then back to the main street and upstairs to an elegant restaurant called Murriettas with open plan dining/kitchen , vaulted ceilings with mountain scenery . Even at 7.30 pm at night the sun was still shining. The main course was seasonal local halibut with fresh spring vegetables, it was accompanied with a glass of local white wine. How would this finish up I wondered?

We headed down the street to the newly opened saloon called Where the Buffalo Roam. I really enjoyed the cheesecake with crumb base served in a cocktail glass. It was accompanied with an espresso martini made from the local roasted coffee.

This was a great finish to a really exceptional evening !

Just like the old fashioned progressive dinners in the 70’s and 80’s this will leave you with great memories of meeting true local characters and sharing regionally inspired food. Join one of our small group tours in 2016 and enjoy your own unique experience in Canmore   #talktous
